Congratulations to the winners of this year’s prestigious Kalisher Essay Competition.
First prize was awarded to Mr Nicholas Murphy, currently a pupil at 25 Bedford Row.
Second prize was awarded to Mr Jamie Scott, Citadel Chambers.
Third Price was awarded to Mr Nicholas Hall, 2 Hare Court.
The successful applicants wrote thoughtful, interesting and creative pieces in answer to the question:
“A Judge summing up in a criminal trial should only give directions of law and a route to verdict; it is not necessary or desirable to sum up the evidence.” Discuss.
The prizes were presented by Attorney General Jeremy Wright, in a ceremony attended by senior members of the bar and Judiciary following the annual Criminal Bar Association lecture.
