The Trust was set up in 1996 in memory of Michael Kalisher QC who died tragically in the prime of his career. Michael represented all the best qualities of the criminal Bar he loved.
He was passionate, committed, fearless and irreverent, and had a powerful appreciation of the privilege and the responsibility of speaking for others when it really mattered.
As he wished, we support talented students who might otherwise be unable to come to the Bar due to financial constraints and the prohibitive costs of vocational training, and we encourage those with conspicuous ability but limited means.
We are proud to support the future excellence and meritocracy of the criminal Bar, and at the same time to keep alive the memory of someone who was such a special barrister.
