Academy schools debating competition

The last day of Term 1 saw Year 10 students honing their debating skills in front of an audience of sixth-formers.

The Kalisher Trust has been sponsored by the David Ross Educational Trust to run a debating competition involving all the academies which will culminate in a Grand Final at The University of Nottingham in May 2015. Showing bravery over nerves, Skegness Grammar School Year 10s were put through their initial debating paces as they learnt the skills required by Kalisher’s Euan Clarke and Bernard Drake.

Each pupil proposed or opposed the motion that ‘This House believes zoos should be banned’. Some used carefully prepared notes, others none at all, but all involved pulled off some impressive and persuasive speeches to impress the audience.

After some of these performances we are all confident that the SGS team have a great chance in this competition.
