Statement: Our Work

The appalling events in Minneapolis on 25th May 2020 have reminded so many that barriers to inclusion and advancement have no place in a just society.

The Kalisher Trust’s mission is to broaden social and ethnic representation at the criminal bar by supporting young people, particularly those from diverse backgrounds.  We have worked for more than twenty years to provide training, financial support, mentoring, internships, and assistance to both aspiring and young barristers to achieve their potential.

We hope that greater awareness across society of the evils of racism and of poverty – each impeding social mobility and made more potent because of a global pandemic – will encourage more colleagues across the bar and beyond to work with us. The legal profession must be at the forefront of challenging racism and the ignorance, intolerance and apathy that allows it to persist.  We pledge to keep fighting for representation; for the rule of law; and for equality.

The Kalisher Trust is committed to ensuring that the under-represented are always at the forefront of our work.  We are keen to hear from you as to how we can better achieve these goals.  So if you would like to know more,  or help (perhaps by identifying someone who might benefit from our work, volunteering, or making a donation), please contact us at [email protected].
