Kalisher Trust – Queen Mary University of London LLM in Criminal Justice Law Scholarship

The Kalisher Trust is pleased to announce that in conjunction with the Department of Law at Queen Mary, University of London, applications for one scholarship worth £4,000 for offer holders on the LLM in Criminal Justice Law course at Queen Mary are now being accepted. Please see below for details regarding eligibility and the application process (link to online application set out under “Application Form” subheading).

Who is eligible to apply for this scholarship?

You must meet all of the following criteria

  • You must be an offer holder (either conditional or unconditional) for the Criminal Justice Law LLM full-time at Queen Mary, University of London.
  • You must have Home fee status
  • You must have received a bursary during your undergraduate Law degree

About the Kalisher Trust

The mission of the Kalisher Trust is to encourage and support talented students who may find the costs of reaching the Criminal Bar prohibitive. The Trust seeks talent irrespective of background and since its inception in 1996 it has helped hundreds of young people, from primary school children to young barristers, as they work towards success in this most demanding profession.

As well as meeting the high academic standards of the course, candidates for the bursary must meet the Kalisher Trust’s objectives of furthering access to the Criminal Bar for students who demonstrate exceptional promise but modest means.

What does this scholarship cover and how is it paid?

This scholarship will cover £4,000 towards living expenses for the academic year that will be paid after completing full enrolment, attending inductions and selecting modules.

Programme Application Deadline

You must have applied for the LLM in Criminal Justice Law by 6 April 2021 (if you have applied by this date and not received an offer by 1 May please contact [email protected] quoting your application number and date of initial application).

Scholarship Application Deadline

3 May 2021 by 23:59 hrs BST

How to apply

Applications are made via online application on the University’s website (link below). On the final page of the application form you will be required to complete a 1000 word (maximum) statement in response to the following;

‘Please explain the reasons why you are interested in Criminal Justice Law, what you will bring to the programme and why you feel you should be awarded a scholarship; focusing on your academic and professional achievements (if relevant) and financial need.’

In addition to this statement we will take into consideration the following documents which you submitted with your programme application:

  1. Your CV.
  2. Full transcript of your grades: Undergraduate/Bachelors level/first degree level and Postgraduate/Masters (if applicable).
  3. 1 x reference letter

All applications will be reviewed by a Panel of representatives from the Department of Law and the Kalisher Trust.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application approximately by 15 June 2021 please wait to be contacted in this regard.

Please note that scholarship (both applications and awards) cannot be deferred.

What are scholarship winners required to do?

The successful candidate is required to put together a two A4- page report for the Kalisher Trust at the end of the academic year. The report should outline the progress and content of the Scholar’s practice, and how he/she benefitted from the Bursary.

The successful candidate may be asked to assist with Queen Mary marketing events such as postgraduate open evenings and/or web/video student profiles; as well as supporting Queen Mary School of Law in promoting the scholarship (e.g. through interviews, photos and presence at events).
