Send for Paul Temple

Date: 15 November 2015

Location: Middle Temple Hall

Send For Paul Temple was the world premiere of the only stage play written by Paul Temple creator, Francis Durbridge. Written in 1940 but never performed because a bomb destroyed the theatre it was scheduled to open in, the piece is a classic sleuth adventure in which suave gentleman detective, Paul Temple (played by Hollywood star Stanley Tucci), battles cunning underworld villains aided by Scotland Yard and, for the first time, his companion the investigative journalist Steve Turner (actress Sophie Ward).

The huge ensemble cast was supported for the first time by live music composed (based on the famous Paul Temple theme) by David Osmond who also wowed the audience with his live sound effects from secret doors (creaking ropes) to bodies falling into the muddy Thames (a bucket of water).

It was also the first time we had guest appearances from stars of the judiciary led by President of the Queen’s Bench, Sir Brian Leveson, as a newspaper street vendor with lines like Exclusive! Actor’s Love Life Revealed After ‘Crossed Line’ Coincidence and No Rest For Randy Royalty Reveals Accidentally Read Love Letter! Sir Brian discovered his talent for treading the boards and the Trust gained a significant and much-valued supporter.
