Fabjola Aruci, Kalisher / Queen Mary (University of London) Scholar, 2020

Fabjola is the Kalisher / Queen Mary LLM Scholar for 2019/20, and reflects on her experience during the year:

My desire to practice in law began from the significant exposure to the law I experienced throughout my life, most notably as a refugee. I was unable to start any schooling until I was eight years old, at which stage I was completely illiterate. With hard work and perseverance I was able to complete my studies and go on to study law. I was the first person of any generation of my family to go to university, where I achieved a First class degree in law. Therefore, it is clear to see why I value education so highly and very much appreciated the opportunity to continue my studies during the LLM in Criminal Justice at Queen Mary University of Law.

The Criminal Justice specialism at Masters level has enabled me to gain knowledge in areas of law previously unexplored at undergraduate level such as Cybercrime, Human Rights and Terrorism, Financial Crime and Corruption, and Data Protection. Having completed the LLM with distinction, I now look forward to using this knowledge to further my career at the Bar in these respective areas.

Finally, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Kalisher Trust for affording me the opportunity to develop my legal knowledge and skills through the Queen Mary LLM in Criminal Justice scholarship. It has made an invaluable contribution to the progression of my future career at the Bar and to me as an individual. I hope that in succeeding at the Bar I will be able to do justice to the memory of Michael Kalisher QC and the Trust.
