Channel 4’s ‘The Trial’ will stage a fictional trial involving a real-life jury and actual barristers, all working unscripted. The prosecution is led by Kalisher’s Chairman, Max Hill QC, with John Ryder QC defending.
When interviewed this week by Ben Lawrence in the Daily Telegraph, Max Hill QC discussed the work of the Kalisher Trust: “It is hugely important to dispel the myth that the bar is only for public-school, middle-class or even white people. Through the publicly funded bar, we work in courts throughout the country where there is more human life on display than in any boardroom or corporation. In other words, real life is brought to bear on the criminal process and you must have real people drawn from all segments of society in order for the profession to be representative”.
